Large Custom Wall Art: How to Commission and Choose
Updated: 3 days ago
Large custom wall art is artwork made to your brief, size and colour palette, instead of chosen from a standard size. At Nrdesign Studio, we create custom wall art from a client’s photo, from a written brief, or around an interior’s colours, materials and dimensions, for homes, hotels, restaurants and commercial spaces. This guide explains what custom wall art is, how a commission works, what to send us, and how to choose the right size and format.
At a glance:
A custom piece can start from a photo, a brief, mood boards or 3D renders.
We can tailor artwork to your colour palette, fabric swatches, materials and lighting.
Custom sizes are available when a standard size does not fit your wall.
The price depends on your brief and is confirmed for each project.
Timing depends on your brief and on how many revisions are made before the artwork is approved for printing.
What is large custom wall art?
Custom wall art is artwork created for one space or one client. Our curated collections are finished, original compositions. A custom commission is different: we develop an original composition from the ground up, designed around your colour scheme, textures and interior concept, or around your photograph. It is available for luxury residential, hospitality and commercial projects.
What can Nrdesign Studio create?
Artwork for a specific interior, tailored to your palette, fabric swatches, architectural materials and lighting.
Custom portraits from high-resolution photographs of family members, loved ones or pets, in our signature contemporary style. They also work as commissioned gifts.
Full-body compositions and lifestyle scenes created from your photo and preferences.
Statement artwork for hotel lobbies, reception areas, lounges and entrance foyers.

How does a custom commission work?
You send your brief. Share your photo, the mood and colours you want, and your dimensions.
We review your space and goals. We look at your layout, proportions, lighting and materials, then recommend suitable pieces from our collections or develop a custom piece.
You see it in context. For designers and architects, we can place proposed artwork in your 3D renders, so you can judge placement, scale, proportions and colour harmony before production.
The artwork is refined with you before it is approved for printing.
Once approved, the piece is made to order and shipped.
What should you send us?
A high-resolution photograph, for portraits
Wall dimensions
Room photographs
3D renders or floor plans
Mood boards and material swatches
Preferred colours and style references
Send what you have, and we will tell you if anything else is needed.
How do you choose the right size?
Start with the furniture beneath the artwork, not only the wall. Above a sofa, console or bed, aim for roughly two-thirds to three-quarters of the furniture’s width, and go larger in tall or double-height rooms. Mark the size on the wall with painter’s tape and live with it for a day before you commit.
Our standard sizes go up to 45×60 in (114×152 cm) in portrait or landscape and 52.5×52.5 in (133×133 cm) square. For larger walls or unusual proportions, we offer custom sizing. For measurements by sofa width, read our guide to choosing the right wall art size for your living room.
Which canvas format suits a custom piece?
Rolled canvas: shipped in protective packaging, ideal if you plan to frame or stretch it yourself.
Stretched canvas: hand-stretched over a 38 mm profile and ready to hang, with image wrap, mirror wrap, white edge or black edge.
Floating-frame canvas: a stretched canvas in a slim floating frame with a 5 mm shadow gap, in black, white, natural, brown, antique gold or antique silver.
All our artworks are printed on 400gsm artist-grade cotton canvas with a satin-matte finish that minimises glare. See our Sizes & Formats guide for details.
How much does custom artwork cost, and how long does it take?
Each project is priced individually, because the price depends on your brief and what you need. Timing depends on your brief and on how many revisions are made before the artwork is approved for printing. After approval, production takes 2–5 business days, followed by delivery. Delivery times by country are in our Shipping & Delivery FAQ. Tell us about your project and we will confirm the price and timeline.

What should you know before you order?
Every piece is made to order, so please check the size, format and finish carefully before you approve it. We do not accept returns for change of mind or for a size or format chosen in error. If an artwork arrives damaged, defective or incorrect, we arrange a free replacement. See our Return Policy. Buying a piece gives you the physical artwork and the right to display it in your home or commercial space. Copyright and commercial reproduction rights remain with Nrdesign Studio.
